A lot has been reported in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit because of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But does the internet variation of this classic game provide a reprieve, or will it never compare to its real life relative?

Bingo is an ancient game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent return in popularity with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law throughout Britain.

No longer will enthusiasts be able to smoke while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of '07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite places where many people like to smoke.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven't abandoned this age old game?

The answer is online. Gamblers realise that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the internet can never replace the social aspect of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
