Much has been reported in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the web variation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it never compare to its real life kin?

Bingo has been an classic game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had witnessed a recent return in appeal with younger people deciding to visit the bingo halls rather than the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the smoking ban across United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of '07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common places where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlours. Numbers have dropped and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Surely they have not abandoned this established game?

The answer is on the web. People know that they can bet on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and fag and in the end, enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the web is unlikely to replace the social part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
