An abundance has been reported in the papers recently about the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the web adaptation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo is an familiar game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlours instead of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban around United Kingdom.

No longer will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored areas where players enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo halls. Players have dropped and the business is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven't given up on this established game?

The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cig and still enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course wagering on on the web is unlikely to replace the social part of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a number of bingo players with little choice.
