An abundance has been written in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the smoking ban in England. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to assist in keeping the industry afloat. However can the web adaptation of this classic game offer a salvation, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar kin?

Bingo is an classic game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had witnessed a recent increase in popularity with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to change with the introduction of the anti smoking law across England and Wales.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes while dabbing numbers. From the summer of '07 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they have not abandoned this familiar game?

The answer is on the internet. People know that they can participate in bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and fag and still have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the net can never replace the collective portion of going over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
