A lot has been reported in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to help keep the businesses afloat. But does the online variation of this quintessential game offer a escape, or will it never compare to its bricks and mortar kin?

Bingo is an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had witnessed a recent return in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlours in place of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the introduction of the smoking ban across England and Wales.

No longer will gamblers be able to smoke while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most common areas where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the business is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not cast aside this familiar game?

The answer is on the net. People realize that they can participate in bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on on the net can never replace the communal part of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the rules have left many bingo players with little option.
