An abundance has been written in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the web version of this quintessential game provide a lifeline, or might it not compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an age old game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent return in acceptance with younger men and women opting to hit the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a weekend. All this is about to change with the introduction of the anti smoking law all over UK.

No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of '07 every public area will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common locations where people like to smoke.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plunged and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Surely they have not given up on this age old game?

The answer is online. Gamblers realize that they can wager on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and smoke and still have a chance at huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on on the web could never replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the rules have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
