A lot has been written in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to help keep the businesses afloat. But does the net variation of this quintessential game provide a escape, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo is an classic game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo halls in place of the discos on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti smoking law across Britain.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of '07 every public place will not be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite places where players like to smoke.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they haven't abandoned this familiar game?

The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and still enjoy huge prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the web will never replace the social part of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the law has left a good many bingo players with little option.
