Much has been reported in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the web adaptation of this classic game provide a salvation, or will it never compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game lately had witnessed a recent increase in popularity with younger people deciding to go to the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enacting of the anti cigarette law throughout England and Wales.

No longer will enthusiasts be able to smoke while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of '07 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Surely they haven't forgotten this established game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realise that they can enjoy bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cig and still have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on online could never replace the communal part of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with no choice.
