A lot has been written in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hit as a result of the smoking ban in the UK. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. However will the net variation of this traditional game present a escape, or will it not compare to its real life kin?

Bingo is an established game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had seen a recent increase in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlors in place of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to change with the legislating of the anti smoking law throughout England and Wales.

No longer will enthusiasts be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. From the summer of '07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored places where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not given up on this established game?

The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the social part of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little alternative.
