Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. This is owing to the fact that the American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for years. Patrons from many of the surrounding states load up in vans and travel into Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) followed a landmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year before. Since that time, 23 of the thirty nine Amerindian bands of Oklahoma have established gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma Indian tribes to take advantage of the gaming rules, and today operate 10 casinos of their own. Bingo is the game on which the above-mentioned casinos were built on. Electronic games like slots weren't approved, since they are believed to lead to gambling dependency more than bingo.

In recent years, Oklahoma governing edicts have changed to permit massive Native gaming casinos. You will now find Native gambling halls with slot machine games, video poker and twenty-one tables.
