A lot has been stated in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive tax breaks to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But does the internet variation of this classic game offer a escape, or will it in no way compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo is an age old game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had witnessed a recent return in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the legislating of the anti cigarette law across UK.

Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite locations where many people enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not cast aside this classic game?

The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can wager on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on on the net is unlikely to replace the collective part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
