Much has been reported in the press recently concerning the bingo industry being hit because of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry alive. However will the internet version of this quintessential game offer a escape, or might it in no way compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo is an classic game generally played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had witnessed a recent return in acceptance with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law throughout United Kingdom.

No longer will players be permitted to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored areas where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven't abandoned this familiar game?

The answer is on the internet. Players are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on online could never replace the communal part of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the law has left a lot of bingo players with no option.
