A lot has been reported in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However does the online adaptation of this classic game present a escape, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar kin?

Bingo has been an familiar game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had undergone a recent resurgence in appeal with younger people deciding to go to the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law across England and Wales.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of '07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular locations where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they have not abandoned this ancient game?

The answer is online. Gamblers realize that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and still have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective part of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little option.
