A lot has been stated in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or might it never compare to its real life kin?

Bingo has been an familiar game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in popularity with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo parlours rather than the bars on a weekend. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the smoking ban throughout UK.

No longer will players be permitted to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common places where folks enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Of course they haven't cast aside this established game?

The answer is on the web. Players are now realizing that they can participate in bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course playing online is unlikely to replace the communal part of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a good many bingo players with no option.
